CARTOON OF THE MONTH – January-December 2012
The exhibition brings together the winning entries for the museum's Cartoon of the Month and Cartoon of the Year 2012 competitions.
A total of 289 artists from across Poland submitted 1,359 works, delivering humor, spot-on observations and commentary on social, cultural and political events of 2012.
Topics which drew the attention of Polish satirists last year included the economic crisis and the crisis in the eurozone, the government’s decision to raise the retirement age, the Euro 2012 soccer championships, and the launch of the new iPhone. The featured artists also explored environmental issues, sports and erotic themes. The winning cartoons on display are meticulous little works of art which give viewers food for thought.
The first prize was a tie between Jacek Fedorowicz, Jacek Frąckiewicz and Witold Mysyrowicz. Since Mysyrowicz also took home the most prizes for Cartoon of the Month, he has received a special award in the form of a monographic exhibition of his works at the Museum of Caricature. The exhibition, entitled In Your Face, is on display at the museum from Feb. 5 to April 1 along with the other winning drawings.
