Ha-Ga. Social life in cartoons

25 October 2025 – 29 March 2026
24 October | 6.00pm – opening night

Museum of Caricature, Kozia 11

The exhibition Ha-Ga. Social Life in Cartoons presents the work of Anna Gosławska-Lipińska, pseudonym Ha-Ga, one of the most talented illustrators of the 20th century, whose works, published for almost forty years in the weekly magazine Szpilki, entertained successive generations of readers.

The exhibition consists of two parts. The first is aimed at adult audiences and focuses on the complex relationships between women and men, which the artist often depicted in her humorous drawings, commonly known as "haga". The second part, which bridges the world of adults and children, is family-oriented and devoted to Ha-Ga as an illustrator of children's literature.

The exhibition will feature over 200 works from the private collection of Ha-Ga's daughter, Zuzanna Lipińska, and from the collection of the Museum of Caricature.

The curators of the exhibition are Agata Napiórska and Piotr Kułak. The accompanying catalogue is being prepared by Zuzanna Lipińska.

An artistic intervention is planned at the end of the exhibition. The exhibition space will be rearranged, and Ha-Ga's drawings will be juxtaposed with works by young artists nominated in the two previous editions of the Ha-Ga competition, including Martyna Bolanowska, Zosia Dzierżawska, paplaLala and Potato Face. The intervention will be curated by Eliza Kącka.

She participated in numerous collective exhibitions of caricatures and satirical and humorous drawings in Poland and abroad. She received, among others, the third prize at the 2nd International Caricature Salon in Montreal (1965) and the Golden Pin with Laurel for her lifetime achievement (1971). In 1966, she was honoured with the Order of Polonia Restituta. In 2008, her first solo exhibition entitled Uwaga! Ha-Ga (Watch out! Ha-Ga) was held at the Museum of Caricature in Warsaw. HA-GA INTERVENTION

February 2026
curator: Eliza Kącka
curator from the Museum of Caricature: Michał Rzecznik graphic design: Marta Tomiak

An artistic intervention is planned for the end of the exhibition. The exhibition space will be rearranged, and Ha-Ga's drawings will be juxtaposed with works by young artists nominated in the two previous editions of the Ha-Gi competition: Martyna Bolanowska, Zosia Dzierżawska, Ala Flora, Joanna Grochocka, Anna Krztoń, Julia Płoch, Klaudia Robat, Renata Gąsiorowska, KTH, paplaLali, Potato Face, Beata Pytko and Marta Tomiak.

The exhibition will become a space for dialogue between generations of female artists. Ha-Gi's works will be reinterpreted from a feminist perspective by reflecting them in the mirror of current comments by young female artists.

The curator who will select the works of young artists is Eliza Kącka – writer, literary scholar and critic. She is the author of prose books, including Strefa zgniotu (Crumple Zone, 2022) and Wczoraj byłaś zła na zielono (Yesterday You Were Angry in Green, 2024), as well as academic books. She is also an editor of poetry anthologies (not only contemporary poetry) and winner of the 2025 Nike Literary Award.
