SATYRYKON 2024
SATYRYKON 2024
Satyrykon, one of the world’s most important competition for visual artist, has been held in Legnica since 1977. Every year thousands of works from all over the world are submitted to Satyrykon. For many years now, competition entries have been submitted in two thematic sections, in which the following prizes are awarded: a gold, silver and bronze medal and two distinctions. From both sections, the jury selects the main prize, the Satyrykon Grand Prix.
SATYRYKON is Poland's largest event devoted to satirical drawing, organised continuously for 47 years, which at the same time keeps its finger on the pulse of new trends. It is a competition open to cartoonists, graphic artists, painters, sculptors, photographers and poster artists.
This year, works were judged in two categories: DUMMY (this year's theme) and, traditionally, JOKE and SATIRE.
After viewing 2,783 works by 836 authors from 61 countries around the world, the jury qualified 172 works for the post-competition exhibition. The most important trophy - the Grand Prix of Satyrykon 2024 to Paweł Kuczyński for his work ‘The Wall’.
We saw a lot of very good work and it was difficult to choose between the best. It is true that the Grand Prix is not at all to be laughed at. The situation we are in at the moment in the world is not funny at all. But we also have a lot of funny entries among the award winners. People who come to see the exhibition in June will be able to laugh. The themes are very universal: they are not only about war and religion, but also, for example, man's approach to his own and the planet's future. There was great diversity in this year's Satyrykon. – Agim Sulaj, the chairman.
Jury represented by: AGIM SULAJ (Italy) – chairman members: JUSTYNA JĘDRYSEK (Poland), ELŻBIETA LASKOWSKA (Poland), GRZEGORZ MYĆKA (Poland), ELŻBIETA PIETRASZKO (Poland), RONALD VANOYSTAEYEN (Belgium), JUGOSLAV VLAHOVIĆ (Serbia) having seen 2783 works by 836 authors from 61 countries, the Jury has decided to qualify 172 works for the post competition exhibition.

Alongside the Satyrykon exhibition - in the lower hall of the Caricature Museum - we will also be showing the work of the winners of the sketchbook competition SZKIC MA MOC (SKETCH HAS POWER).
The Satyrykon exhibition mixed with the exhibition Szkic ma moc is a fantastic presentation of what is happening in the field of contemporary drawing and illustration. At Satyrykon we can see the state of mind and humour of experienced artists. 'Sketch has power' gives us the opportunity to see what the future holds, what talents are being born and developed. - says Dr Paweł Płoski, Director of the Museum of Caricature.
The SZKIC MA MOC competition, now in its fourth year, is aimed at pupils, students and graduates of art schools and aims to select an original collection of sketches by a single author. The 4th edition of the competition received 423 sketchbooks from all over Poland, of which 100 works qualified for the post-competition exhibition.
The sketchbooks were evaluated by a jury composed of Tomasz Broda – chairman, Anita Wincencjusz-Patyna and Jacek Ambrożewski.
The exhibition at the Museum of Caricature will feature sketchbooks by some of the leading names in young Polish illustration, design and poster art, as well as by young artists who are just beginning their adventure with the artistic world. The exhibition will be accompanied by drawing workshops.
