Eryk Lipinski

Eryk Lipiński was a caricaturist, satirist, journalist, graphic designer, poster designer, illustrator, author of satirical texts and books about the history of caricature and satirical drawings. He was a founder of the Museum of Caricature, which was created in 1978.

Eryk Lipinski Szpilki

In 1934, together with Zbigniew Mitzner, he founded the weekly satirical anti-establishment left-wing magazine ‟Szpilki” (Pins) which continued to be published from the end of WW2 until 1995. For many years, Eryk Lipiński was a chief editor of ‟Szpilki”.

Eryk Lipinski

Eryk Lipiński was one of the creators of the Polish Poster School. He was also organiser, curator and participant of the first Poster Biennale in Warsaw in 1966.

Eryk Lipiński

As cartoonist, illustrator and graphic designer, he contributed to numerous magazines, such as: ‟Szpilki”, ‟Mucha”,  ‟Przekrój”,  ‟Karuzela”,  ‟Literatura”,  ‟Zwierciadło”,  ‟Polska”,  ‟Stolica”,  ‟Świat”, ‟Świerszczyk” and others.

In 1978, together with Hanna Górska, he wrote the book  “History of Polish Caricature”.  He also published various satirical books and some memoirs, among them his own diaries.

Eryk Lipiński was the main organiser and the first chairman of the Association of Polish Caricaturists SPAK funded in 1987. The annual “Eryk” award is given by SPAK for achievements in the field of caricature.

In 1991 Eryk Lipiński received the title of  “Rightous Among the Nations” from the Institute Yad Veshem in Jerusalem.

Since 1983 the premises fo the Museum of Caricature are at 11, Kozia Street in Warsaw. In 2002 the Museum has been named after its creator – Eryk Lipiński.
