Our collection
Initially the Museum's of Caricature modest collection of drawings consisted of some 2,500 objects, but has now grown to a collection of over 25,000 items, drawingsIncluding permanent deposits, it numbers over 25,000 drawings, as well as objects of painting and sculpture. The collection contains many cimels of Polish and world caricature, from the eighteenth century to the most recent. The collection includes works by such prominent foreign artists as: W. Hogarth, H. Daumier, J. Effel, H. Sandberg and R. Topor. Obviously it is dominated by works of Polish authors, beginning with copper engravings by D. Chodowiecki from the 18th century. Special attention should be paid to works by: Particularly noteworthy are works by F. Kostrzewski, K. Sichulski, Z. Czermański, B. W. Linke, J. Zaruba and M. Berezowska. Of course, the collection of contemporary Polish caricature is the richest. The long list of authors here includes such individualities as: E. Lipiński, J. Bohdanowicz, A. Czeczot, A. Dudziński, J. Flisak, Z. Jujka, Sz. Kobyliński, A. Krauze, Z. Lengren, E. Lutczyn, A. Mleczko, S. Mrożek, H. Sawka, J. Stanny. The museum's collection also includes works of the most popular cartoonists of the younger generation today with: J. Gawłowski, P. Kuczyński and M. Raczkowski at the head.
Department of Collection and Research
The library collection of the Museum of Caricature consists of over 10 thousand volumes. It consists of books, periodicals and ephemeral prints from the 19th, 20th and 21st century, published in Poland and abroad. In the collection one can find albums, scientific studies, publications devoted to art and caricature artists, as well as exhibition catalogues. Among the periodicals one should mention the most widely read satirical weeklies, biweeklies, monthlies and one-day papers, as well as unique Polish and foreign satirical magazines.
The Department makes its library collections and archival materials available to the public (researchers, publishers, students, etc.) in the reading room on the spot, after making an appointment by phone or e-mail. The library collection and other materials are not lent out.
The Department prepares factual queries on museum and library collections for institutions (museums, cultural institutions, publishers, universities etc.) and individual visitors. It lends musealia and makes their images available after prior arrangements and procedures.
