about the exhibition

The exhibition offers a chance to dive into the world of one of the greatest artists of European comics. Grzegorz Rosiński is a complete, fulfilled and outstanding artist. Featuring more than 400 artefacts, the exhibition presents the story of his life through the prism of his oeuvre and the events shaping it.

The objects displayed include both original comic art created during Grzegorz Rosiński's prolific, long career as an illustrator, as well as his paintings, greatly appreciated by collectors. The works originate from throughout the artist's creative life and represent all the styles in which he has worked. Thus, there are numerous book illustrations, boards from the Kapitan Żbik series, drawings from historical comic books as well as graphic novels created in exile – Thorgal, Chninkel, Hans, Western and The Revenge of Count Skarbek. Most of these titles are extremely prominent in the canon of European comics, earning their author the status of an international star for decades.

With his achievements in the field of comics, Grzegorz Rosiński has made a vast and unquestionable contribution to Polish and European culture, changing the landscape of European comic art. Visitors to the exhibition can appreciate Rosiński's graphic and painting artistry, taking visual delight in the precise lines of his illustrations and the captivating colour palette of his paintings.

The exhibition was conceived by Maria Lengren, curated by Piotr Rosiński. It is accompanied by a catalogue with a text by Wojciech Birek, the long-time translator of Grzegorz Rosiński's comic books.

The exhibition was developed at the EC1 Centre for Comics and Interactive Narration in Łódź. The Warsaw presentation was organised by the Eryk Lipiński Museum of Caricature.
